Users can now authenticate on hp LaserJet MFPs
using a simple PIN code entered on the front panel touch screen.
Users will then use their PIN code to get access to the device
functions such as email, fax, copy, scan or secure mobile printing.
No more login/password to type on the MFP front panel!
Up to 1 million users & PIN codes per device
SecureJet
Auth-FP is directly running from the MFP front panel touch screen.
It does not require any extra hardware, power supply or network
plug.
Up to 1 million users/PIN codes can
be recognized per MFP. The PIN codes and users list can be securely
stored on every MFP hard drive or validated against LDAP or Active
Directory upon authentication*. SecureJet Auth-FP offers the fastest
authentication at the best price.
*: Live LDAP/AD validation requires
SecureJet Print-PS
Authenticate for MFP applications
The
administrator can define for what MFP functions users must enter
their PIN code to get access. Upon PIN code validation, the MFP
knows about the user name, login and email address. That information
is then used by the MFP application such as email sending (FROM
field), copy tracking or secure printing to reclaim the user print
jobs.
The authentication
process is very simple: upon activation of a function (copy, fax,
email, secure printing etc) the SecureJet Auth-FP screen shows up.
The user types his PIN code in the MFP front panel hardware keypad,
then press the OK button at the bottom of the touch screen.

The
supplied PIN code is instantly validated against the local or remote
users database.
SecureJet Auth then grants the access to the MFP function and
supplies to the MFP the following user information:
- User full name
- User login
- User email address

That information will
be reused by MFP functions such as hp Autostore or email
The user name then
shows up on the top left of the MFP screen.
Billing codes / matter codes to charge back the MFP usage
A billing code (also
known as matter code) can also be entered during authentication to
bill-back the operation i.e. to a project or client. That entry can be
made mandatory by including a list of numeric billing codes (4 to 19
digits each) in the SecureJet configuration. Up to 1 million
predefined billing codes can be included in that list, per device.
Compatible with SecureJet Auth-PXT PIN codes on
printers
You have a mix
of printers and MFPs? SecureJet Auth-FP is fully compatible with the
Auth-PXT module. You can then equip MFPs with SecureJet Auth-FP and
printers with SecureJet Auth-PXT. You configure both MFPs and printers in one
unique operation using the same software and data files, and end-users have the exact same PIN code to get print jobs
on both types of devices and access MFP functions.
On MFPs, usable with all manageable functions
Authentication on MFPs can authenticate users for:
-
Monochrome copy
-
Color copy
-
Fax sending
-
Email sending
-
Print jobs
release (requires SecureJet Print SMP)
-
Scan to folder
-
hp DSS Workflow
TM
-
Autostore TM
-
Omtool AccuRoute

-
Job tracking
-
and any other
MFP function managed by the hp Authentication manager
Protecting email sending by forcing the FROM field information
When
SecureJet Auth is used to control MFP email sending, the FROM field
is automatically filled with the user name and email address and
cannot be edited. This ensure no spoofing is done when sending
emails from MFPs.
PIN codes generation, extraction and validation
SecureJet Auth-FP can validate PIN code and get user information in
various ways:
-
If the user PIN code is in LDAP or Active Directory database,
SecureJet can perform an on-line validation of the user PIN code
against that database, using
SecureJet Print-PS as validation
gateway.
The user PIN code is
submitted to one or more LDAP and Active Directory servers through
SecureJet Print-PS, to find the user record matching the PIN code.
Active Directory or LDAP then returns the user information such as
his email address, login, full name, department name, domain etc.
This solution is the best when there is a LDAP/AD database which can
be accessed live and is fast.

-
Users PIN code, email address, full
name, department and login can be extracted
from a LDAP or ActiveDirectory database then securely stored inside
the MFP hard drive
(off-line
validation). When an update is done, SecureJet can generate
automatically a random PIN code to all new users, and send that PIN
code by email to its owner in a customized message.
This generates a CSV file that can be used by the SecureJet Admin
software to encrypt and securely store that information on every MFP
hard drive. The AD/LDAP extraction and upload to devices can be run
from script files, and called from a scheduler. This solution is the best when there is a LDAP/AD
database which cannot be accessed live due to bandwidth or security
reasons.

-
From a CSV semi-colon delimited file
listing all users and PIN codes.
That CSV file that can be used by the SecureJet Admin software to
encrypt and securely store that information on every MFP hard drive.
The upload to devices can be run from script files, and called from
a scheduler.
This solution is the best when the
badges numbers are in a database separate from the IT systems (i.e.
managed by the procurement department in charge of physical access
control).
-
The
Users List Editor, supplied standard in SecureJet Auth, allows to
enter users information on an entry screen, with random unique PIN
code generation. The proprietary database generates a CSV file for
upload to devices, which can be run from script files or called from
a scheduler. This solution is the best when there are few users to
manage.
PIN codes range
PIN codes are numeric and can have any value from 1000 to
999999999.
Simple to install
Just
insert the SecureJet Auth-FP card inside the MFP.
All the software is running inside the printer or MFP and is stored
on a memory card inserted inside the device. One some old printers,
that memory card is a DIMM board. On some other, it is a
CompactFlash card. On the most recent devices it is a USB key
similar to the USB memory key for PC.
